History

The Hall of Fame was established by Widmarc Clark and Mark Cavalerro in 2004 in New London, N.C. to provide a platform to to honor southern music artist and others in the entertainment industry from six category’s ( rock n roll), (counrty), (rhythm & blues), (blues),(bluegrass) and (gospel) music from the 40′s, & 50′s and early 60′s, that apply to the preservation of southern originating music and it’s heritage, and to those who have made significat contributions.

Mark Cavalerro is from Apex,N.C. and has his own computer business there. Mark resigned from the hall of fame in 2007 to give full time to his computer business. Mark Cavalerro was the first chairman of the board, and held the position of COO. Mark helped get the hall of fame up and running, was in charge of all legal aspects of the hall of fame. He helped write the by laws and instilled the policy no one can be inducted without permission from each inductee,or if deceased permission from a family member or someone with authority to grant permission to be inducted.

Jim Case came on board in 2005 and became Senior Vice President of operations at the home office in Portland, TN. Taking care of the day to day operation of the hall of fame. Jim Case is from Spartanburg, S.C. Jim Case sets up the guidelines for each and every induction and plans where all inductions will take place in Sept of each year.

H.T. ” Hank ” Henry joined the hall of fame in 2005 and became chairman of the board when Mark Cavalerro resigned. He took charge of overall operation of the hall of fame and kept everything running smooth. H.T. ” Hank ” Henry passed away in April of 2010.

Widmarc Clark was born in Quitman, Ga on October 30 1941. Raised in Valley, Ala, moved to Rockville,Md. in 1957. Graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville,Md. in 1959. Graduated from The Washington School of Medical Techniques in 1961. Enlisted in the Navy in 1961 honorably discharged in 1965 as ABH-2, was in VW-13, HS-9. Served aboard the USS Essex and the USS Forrestal.

Worked for Overnie Transportation Co in Baltimore, Md. In 1968 Attended the National Academy of Broadcasting in Washington. D.C. graduated with a third class radio telephone operators licence with studies in broadcast news, TV, Radio, advertising and promotion. Stayed on as an instructor till 1971. Took a job at WDON as salesman and DJ. In 1971 Established Promotions Unlimited with Jim Case and H.T. ” Hank ” Henry. Went to work for George Marshall Amusements in 1972 as promotions manager.

Returned to WDON and Promotions Unlimited in 1972, also setting up Dixie Promotions Limited with Tom ” Cat ” Reeder booking entertainment in and around the Washinton. D.C. Maryland and Virginia area. In 1973 Widmarc sold Promotions Unlimited to H.T. ” Hank ” Henry. 1973 went back to work for Overnite Transportation Co.

Moved to Cantonment,Fla in 1978. In 1987 went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, retired in 2000. In 2001 became a staff writer for The Rock a Billy Hall of Fame establishing ” Widmarc’s Rock a Billy Saturday Nite ” and Widmarc’s Honkey Tonk Saturday Nite “. In 2004 established The Southern Legends Entertainment and Performing Arts Hall of Fame and The Southern Legends Association.
